School Counseling and K-12 Supports

Welcome to K-12 School Counseling and Guidance at OSPI. We have gathered information, policy, links and school-level resources every school needs to build a robust comprehensive school counseling and guidance program.

Washington Comprehensive School Counseling and Guidance Program Model

A comprehensive school counseling program, an integral component of the school’s mission, functions in three domains- academic, career and social emotional- for elementary, middle and high schools. OSPI school counseling staff provides K-12 support, technical assistance and tools for comprehensive school counseling program development and effective use of student data to prepare all students to be successful. School counseling and guidance programs enhance the learning process and help create a positive school culture for academic achievement using evidence-based practices, career and college readiness for successful planning with social emotional resources during the process.
